I’ve been working in sales, marketing, and advertising for almost 30 years. In fact, I got my start in the early 90s, so I’m very familiar with how we used to build relationships with customers and clients.
Back in those days, we won over clients with in-person presentations, sales calls, direct mail, cold calls, Yellow Pages ads, and even the occasional dinner at a fancy restaurant.
But there’s been a big shift in marketing over the past 10 years. It’s the reason why I started my marketing agency 9 years ago. I saw this exciting new way to promote products and services…social media!
I’ve seen many businesses who thought social media was a fad, or they were skeptical of whether it would help their business, so they resisted building their visibility and credibility online. And then COVID hit.
Old ways won’t open new doors.
Today you can’t hold in-person meetings. And your customers don’t want them anyway. They’re online searching for information. Even Yellow Pages is online! What does that tell you?
Is social media a fad?
Not even close. Over 2 Billion people use social media every day to connect with family, friends, and yes, brands. If you want to attract customers and build relationships your business needs to be online. Since COVID stopped us all in our tracks, social media usage is up 70% in some places. Would you call that a fad?
If you haven’t embraced online marketing, don’t fret. It’s not too late.
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.
If you’re confused about social media, I got you. I realize the rules of social networks keep changing, so I created a guide on my latest tips and tricks for Facebook and Instagram. You can grab a copy of it HERE.
There is one thing you can count on. The rules will keep changing. It’s the nature of technology. Keep evolving to meet the needs of your audience. The question is, are you and your business evolving too?
